Installing Digital Camera Software on a Mac

Where to find this software

Olympus Digital Camera software is installed on Macs in all public labs. If you are currently working in the computer labs, it is NOT necessary to install the software. Please read the instructions on Downloading Pictures from a Digital Camera.

System Requirements

If you are installing this software on a personal computer, the USB SmartMedia card reader is compatible with Mac OS 8.1 or higher and any Mac with a USB port. Other requirements include: CD-ROM drive, at least 32 MB RAM, 75 MB free hard drive space, monitor with 256 Colors 640x480 or greater screen resolution. Apple iMac users should upgrade to USB supplement 1.1.
  • If you are running Mac OS 9.x on your computer, go to the Installing the software for Mac OS 8.1 to 9.x installation instructions.
  • If you are running Mac OS X, go to the Installing the software for Mac OS X installation instructions.
  • You will not be able to download pictures on a beige G3, a 8600, a 7300, or earlier or a Mac running an older operating system than 8.1. Please use a mac in one of the computer labs on campus to download your pictures.

Installing the software for Mac OS 8.1 - 9.x

  1. Quit out of any open programs.
  2. Insert the CD titled Olympus into the CD drive.
  3. On the desktop, a CD icon titled Olympus will appear. Double-click on it.
  4. Double-click the folder OS 8.1_9.x.
  5. Double-click the icon titled Olympus USB reader.
  6. A window showing the Olympus Camedia splash screen will appear. Click Continue.
  7. The next window will say the computer may need to be restarted after the installation and ask if you want to continue. Click Yes.
  8. A new window will show the progress of the files being copied.
  9. On the Installation Successful window, click Restart.
  10. After the computer restarts, eject the CD by dragging the icon to the trash. Proceed to the instructions on Downloading Pictures from a Digital Camera on a Mac for USB.

Installing the software for Mac OS X

  1. Quit out of any open programs.
  2. Insert the CD titled Olympus into the CD drive.
  3. On the desktop, a CD icon titled Olympus will appear. Double-click on it.
  4. Double-click the folder OS 10.1_10.2. Double-click Reader14-OSX1_X2.
  5. Double-click the icon titled eUSB SmartMedia.
  6. If you have not logged in as an Administrator, the computer will ask you to. Click on the unlock icon and enter the administrator's username and password.
  7. In the window, click Continue.
  8. When the computer asks you to select a destination for the software to be installed to, choose Macintosh HD and click on Continue.
  9. In the Easy Install Window, click on Install.
  10. When the computer asks you whether you want to install the software now, click on Continue Installation.
  11. On the Installation Successful window, click Restart.
  12. After the computer restarts, eject the CD by dragging the icon to the trash. Proceed to the instructions on Downloading Pictures from a Digital Camera on a Mac for USB.
