Downloading Pictures from a Digital Camera on a Mac
System Requirements
The xD Card Reader
is compatible with Mac OS 9.0 or higher and any Mac with a USB port.
You will not be able to download pictures on a beige G3, a 8600, a 7300, or
earlier. Please use a mac in one of the computer labs on campus.
Downloading Pictures on a Mac
- Connect the xD Card Reader to one of the computer's
USB ports located on the back of the computer.
- Take the xD card out of the camera. Open the xD card compartment
cover, usually found on the opposite side of the camera from the
AC adapter (see camera documentation for more details), and push the xD
card slowly to eject the card. Put the card into the xD Card Reader,
gold side facing down.
- An icon should appear on the desktop a few seconds after the xD Card is inserted.
It should be called NO_NAME or Unlabeled on OSX or untitled on
OS 9. (Please do not rename the icon) If you see a window with the following
message, "Do
you want to use iPhoto...", click Use Other and quit
out of iPhoto.
- Double-click on the NO_NAME or unlabeled or untitled icon.
- A window will appear a folder called DCIM inside it. Downloaded
pictures are contained in a folder titled DCIM -> 100OLYMP.
- Copy the files in the DCIM -> 100OLYMP folder onto the desktop
to download them. In OS9, you need to hold the option key down while dragging
folders/files to the desktop in order for them to copy.
- Delete the pictures from the xD Card once you have
downloaded them. Return to the window for the DCIM -> 100OLYMP folder.
Go to the Edit menu and choose Select All. This will highlight
all the files in the folder holding the pictures. Drag and drop the pictures
into the trash.
- Make sure you empty the trash!!
- When you are finished deleting the pictures from the
xD Card, drag the NO_NAME or Unlabeled or untitled icon to the trash.
- Remove
the xD Card from the reader by gently pulling out the card with two fingers
and place it back into the camera slot.
- Disconnect the xD Card Reader from the computer.
