About domain membership

Your Windows XP computer must be designated a "member" of the Wellesley domain in order for you to log in to the domain at startup and change your domain password. Since computers not owned by Wellesley College are not domain members, when you start up your personal Windows XP machine you are logging in to the computer itself, not to the domain. To use a file server such as NTM, you must log in to the domain when you connect to the file server.

Connecting to file servers

To connect to a Windows file server such as NTM:
  1. From the Start menu, choose Run.

  2. In the Open: field, type \\ followed by the name of the server to which you want to connect (e.g., \\ntm). Then click OK.

  3. The Connect to window will appear. In the User name field, type wellesley\ followed by your domain user name (e.g., wellesley\wwellesl); in the Password field, type your domain password. Click OK. Note: To preserve the security of your account, do not check Remember my password.
