FirstClass Installation and Removal for Macintosh
| What is your current FirstClass
version? To find out, from the FirstClass menu
choose About FirstClass Client. |
Installing
FirstClass
- Print these instructions.
- Click here to download the FirstClass
9.022 for Mac OS X installation software. The Download
Manager may open and a file called FC9022US.dmg will
appear on your Macintosh desktop. (You may see a message
saying that the file contains an application and asking whether
you want to continue. If so, click Continue.)
- If any version of FirstClass is already installed on this
computer, first follow the removal instructions then
continue with the installation. You will not be able to install
FirstClass 9 unless previous versions have been deleted.
- Quit from all programs including the browser you are using
to read these instructions and refer to your printed instructions.
- Double-click on FC9022US.dmg, causing it to create
a volume called Install FirstClass® Client on the
desktop. It may automatically open the volume, but if not,
double-click Install FirstClass® Client on the desktop.
- In the window that appears, double-click the Install FirstClass® Client icon
to launch the install program. You can click through each install
window, as follows:

Installation Type: Install
Would you like to add a desktop alias: Yes or No
Finish Up: Quit
- If Quit is grayed out, click once on the Installation successful
window to make it the active window then click Quit.
- FirstClass should now launch automatically as noted by the
new FirstClass icon in the dock. If the
Login window does not appear, from the menu choose Collaborate > Connect.
Click
the Advanced button in the Login window so
that it opens up a new bottom section shown in this picture.
- Click the Setup button to open a Service
Setup window.
In the Connect via field choose Local Network.fcp.
In the Server field type firstclass.wellesley.edu
Do not enter information in the other fields.
Click Save.
- Log in with your FirstClass User ID and password.
- There is now a FirstClass icon on your dock because FirstClass
is open. If you would like to make a permanent FirstClass 9.022
icon in the dock, click and hold down the mouse on the FirstClass
icon in the dock. Then select Keep in Dock from the
pop-up menu.
- If you preserved a personal dictionary file (user.fct) before
removing a previous installation of FirstClass, you can add
it to your version 9 installation. FirstClass > Quit
FirstClass, then locate the file that you saved in
the FirstClass removal instructions and drag it to the Home > Library > Firstclass > Tools folder.
- Close all windows and drag the FC9022US.dmg file and
the Install FirstClass® Client volume to the Trash.
From the Finder menu choose Empty Trash.
