Faculty / Staff Computing Helpdesk


The IS Computing Helpdesk is the Wellesley College technical support resource for faculty and staff.

The Helpdesk is open Monday through Friday, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm at extension 3333.

When you call the Helpdesk, it will expedite your call if you have the following information immediately available:

  • Your username
  • The model of computer you use (e.g. Macintosh, iMac, Gateway E4300, Laptop, etc.).
  • The model of printer you are using as well as the queue name.
  • The application you are using (Word, Excel, Filemaker Pro, First Class).
  • Any error messages displayed.
  • What operating system you are running (OS X.4, Win XP, Win 2000).
  • You may ask the consultant for a log number in case you need to call back regarding the same problem.
We are located just left of the main entrance to Clapp Library. You are welcome to stop by anytime for help or a tour!

Calling the Helpdesk :

Your computing question, problem or request is handled immediately by the students and the IS staff person on duty. The Helpdesk supports college owned computers only, not personal laptops or home computers. However, we do respond to questions regarding FirstClass and VirusScan on personal machines. If your problem requires further troubleshooting or consideration it will be referred to a staff person with expertise on the application or hardware. If your question is referred you will be contacted within a business day of your call. If you need help after Helpdesk operating hours, faculty and staff can post questions to Computing Questions on FirstClass or leave a voice message on the Helpdesk phone. You call will be returned the following morning.

 

Finding out more about your computer :

When you experience problems with your computer, printer or an application, check the documentation for PCs and MACs. These pages were created specifically to keep the Wellesley community informed about the software and hardware we supported by IS. Be sure to bookmark the Main Computing page for many useful quick links.

 

Resources for students :

Students requiring computing assistance have several choices. See the ResNet "Getting Help" section for details about Computing First Aid, Student Computing Help Forms, and more. Students are also encouraged to post to Computing Questions on FirstClass. Students can also stop by the Helpdesk for these reasons. If you are a student calling the Helpdesk for a faculty or staff member, please give their username as well as your own name.
