Looking for a great chance this summer to learn about
instructional technology, have some fun with your classmates,
and eat the finest pizza we can find?
Information Services is looking for roughly ten Wellesley
students to work with our instructional technology staff
and with faculty to develop instructional applications.
Most, but not all, of these projects would be web-based.
These internships pay $12 per hour. Students must either
work full time 8:30am - 4:30pm (35
hours per
week)
or 4/5
time (i.e., 4 days instead of 5).
The internships will
begin this year on Tuesday, June 10th and end August 8th.
Applications will be accepted beginning February
8th, 2008 and are due before 4 pm, Friday, February 22nd.
Attendance at all 7 days of our training (June 10-June
18) is absolutely essential.
Housing is not provided. Some students arrange for summer
housing on campus through the Housing Office; others find
their own housing off-campus.
The internships are funded by the Knapp Fund for Technology
Innovation and Education.
. . . Note . . .
We are *strongly* biased in favor of students who will be enrolled and
on campus in the fall (i.e., graduating seniors and students who will
be on junior leave abroad will be at a disadvantage.)
. . . Here's what a previous intern
said about the experience . . .
" I couldn't believe we were being paid to learn so much useful information!
And in such a fun way!" Another said that "I feel like I can use my
technology and my project management skills in so many different areas now, and
they are truly marketable."
The only absolute prerequisites are computer
literacy, a strong desire to learn, willingness to search
for answers on one's own, a cheerful attitude, and a good
sense of humor.
The ideal candidate would have completed CS110 or have
equivalent experience, but students will be able to further
develop their skills through project teams and special
training.
We are looking for students with skills in any of
the following areas:
- HTML
- Web page design and project management
- Graphic design or electronic imaging (e.g., Art 109,
Art 221)
- Digital animation (e.g., animated GIFs, Flash vector-based
animations)
- Macromedia Director
- JavaScript
- Java
- Internet research techniques
- Database design (e.g., FileMaker, Microsoft Access)
- Writing
In previous summers, interns worked on web projects such
as:
