Media Formats Compatible with iDVD 5

Media Formats Compatible with iDVD 5

  • Audio
    • AAC, MP3, AIFF

  • Images
    • Any image file supported by quicktime (JPEG, TIFF, GIF, etc)

  • Video
    • Most video files supported by quicktime (MOV, MPEG-4, etc)
      Not compatible with: MPEG-1, MPEG-2, QuickTime VR movies, movies with sprite or Flash tracks.

      To add your movie, click on the arrow pointing down by the + in the buttom left on the main window.



      Select Add Movie.
      1. A menu titled Add Movie Here will appear on the screen.
      2. Drag your movie in the menu, wait for it to load; you will notice the title change to your movie’s title.
      3. To preview it, double click on the title of the movie.
      4. To exit, click the exit button in the menu box by the i-DVD screen.

Using Songs from iTunes

  1. Click on the Media button and choose Audio from the drop down menu.
  2. Your iTunes music library should now appear in the upper box.
  3. To play a song but not put it in your iDVD project, click the Play button at the bottom of the window.
  4. To put a song in your iDVD project, select the song and click the Apply button.

Using Pictures from iPhoto

  1. Click on the Media button and choose Photos from the drop down menu.. iPhoto subfolders will be displayed on the upper half of the screen. Thumbnail pictures will be displayed on the bottom half of the screen.
  2. To make a picture the background for the current page in your iDVD project, drag the photo to the main window. You can also drag a picture into one of the drop zones in the main window.

Using Movies from Movie Library

  1. Click on the Media button in the new window, and choose Movies from the drop down menu.
  2. To play a movie but not put it in your iDVD project, click the Play button at the bottom of the window.
  3. To add the movie to your iDVD project, drag the movie to the main window. A button with the name of the dropped movie file will be displayed on the screen. You can also drag the movie into one of the drop zones in the main window.

Using Media From Other Sources

You can insert media (audio, images, movies) without importing to iTunes/iMovie/iPhoto by simply dragging the file(s) into the main window of your project.

  • To add an image/movie: drag an image or movie file into any drop zone, or into the background of your project.
  • To add audio: drag the audio file into the background of your project.
