Off-campus Internet Connections - What to Know Before you Leave Campus

Wellesley College Information Services does not provide dial-up access to FirstClass or to the Internet from off-campus.

You can access FirstClass and the Internet from off-campus only if your travel destination provides network access, or if you pay for your own dial-up account.

Before you leave, please check with your hotel and other destination locations to see if they provide network connections, either wired or wireless.

If they do not provide network connections, you will need to sign up with an Internet Service Provider (ISP) to access FirstClass and/or the Internet. Your ISP will provide you with a list of local phone numbers that you can use to connect to the Internet using this laptop's modem. This laptop's built-in wireless networking could also be used at certain locations such as Starbucks coffee shops with the proper ISP account; please plan ahead and make all arrangements before you travel.

All fees for network and/or ISP accounts are the responsibility of the user.  Wellesley College Information Services does not provide reimbursement for users' accounts.

There are a number of ISPs across the United States with different service options and contracts.  (Most of the major ISPs have local numbers in most major cities worldwide, that you can use while traveling. Contact your ISP for more information.) IS has no relationship with either of the following companies, but you can find out more about the access they provide by contacting them.
