Information for Departing Users

Email

Back up any of your FirstClass e-mail, attachments and files that you want to keep beyond the time your FirstClass account expires, or work that you should pass along to someone who is staying. Start this soon, in case you end up with questions or problems and need our help! How to back up FirstClass contents.

Please keep in mind that you'll need to back up your e-mail using the FirstClass 9 Client software. The above directions will not work with older versions of FirstClass or the web interface. Follow the links below to get the FirstClass 9 Client:

Begin letting the important people in your life know how they will be able to reach you via e-mail by including that information in your FirstClass signature. How to edit your FirstClass e-mail signature.

Purchase Software or Hardware

Quickly purchase Microsoft Office, Adobe software, or even a computer using Wellesley's special discount price before you lose your FirstClass account. The license, if purchased before you leave, will allow you to install this software and keep it even after you are no longer with the college. Be sure to buy the software early enough to allow time for shipping so that you'll have have it in hand before your FirstClass account is gone. It is necessary to use your FirstClass e-mail account (e.g., wwellesl@wellesley.edu) to be eligible to purchase the software.

Library

Take a look at your library record to be sure you have returned everything to the campus libraries or paid your fines.

Uninstall College Software

On your personal computer, just before you leave...

Uninstall KeyAccess and any KeyServed applications before you leave campus, since they won't work once you leave. Check Wellesley's Computing web page for the Windows and Macintosh software list to see what software is marked as being KeyServed. Dreamweaver is an example of KeyServed software.

Buy new virus protection software and uninstall VirusScan, which you are only licensed to use as long as you are a current Wellesley student, faculty or staff member. On this page, choose the version you'd like to remove. Post to "Computing Questions & IS Alerts" on FirstClass if you can't find the information you need.

If you installed the licensed version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware on your computer, you will need to remove that and install the free version.

Especially for Graduating Seniors

Set up your Wellesley alum forwarding e-mail account and have it point to a post-graduation e-mail address. For details, see the online "Community" area of the Alumnae Association web site.

Take advantage of having ElementK software training until August -- be sure to sign up for a login before you leave campus, as the "key" you need is only available on campus.

Especially for Faculty & Staff

If you purchased Microsoft Office by filling out a form at the Help Desk and faxing in your order, you need to remove this Work-at-Home version of Microsoft when you no longer have a College computer running the software or no longer use the software for work on your personal computer. You may want to take advantage of the discounts available to buy a personal copy (see "Purchase Software," above).

If you have files others may be looking for, consider backing them up for easy access.
