Virex is a virus protection software for Macs. Viruses are small computer applications that alter your hard drive or floppy disks in various ways. Some can cause extensive damage while others are mere nuisances. Like biological viruses they are difficult to detect and may be transmitted to other computers or disks. For instance, if you insert a zip disk which contains an infected file into your computer, your computer may also become infected and you may lose valuable information. Protection from computer viruses, therefore, is very important.
Viruses are transmitted through infected zip disks, infected files downloaded from the Internet, and infected documents attached to E-mail messages. Virex 7 will not autoscan zip disks in OS X v.10.3.
Virex is the standard virus protection software at Wellesley College for Macs. The College has bought the license for staff and students to put it on their office and home computers to guard against viruses.
For more information about installing and using Virex, please refer taut Wellesley College Computing Virex documentation.
