1. Save a copy of your document to the computer's desktop. DO NOT work with a document from a disk or on the network.
2. Set the size of your image:
a) Open your image in Photoshop
b) From the Image menu, select Image Size. A window titled Image Size will open.
- Towards the bottom of the window, make sure the box next to Constrain Proportions is checked.
- In the Document Size section:
- Make sure the width and height menus are set to inches. Adjust the width and height to your desired size.
- The width must not be greater than 34 inches.
- Set the Resolution field to at least 150dpi and no more than 300/600dpi
- Click OK.
3. Make sure the image you are printing has all the layers flattened.This will make the file size smaller and help the image print faster.
4. Save a second copy of your document to the desktop with the changes made for printing. Save the second copy with a new name to avoid copying over the original file.
5. Set the Paper Size and print your document.
a) In Photoshop, click on the File menu and select Page Setup. A window titled Page Setup will open.
b) In the Page Setup window:
- The Settings field should read Page Attributes.
- Set the Format for: field to Stylus Pro 9600
- Click the pull-down menu next to the Paper Size: field and select a page size close to the size of your document. As long as the height is correct, it is okay to choose a size which is 36" wide. The paper will feed out that large regardless. Note, the crossed out selections in the following picture are NOT acceptable paper sizes.
If the paper size you need is not on the list, do the following:
- Change the Settings field to Custom Paper Size.
- Click the New button to add a new paper size. Create a name for it based on the size. width" x height" So if your new paper size was 36" x 12", that would be how you would name it.
- Under Paper Size, type in the height and width of your document. The width should always be set to 36" because that is the size of the paper in the plotter.
- Under Printer Margins, make sure all fields are set to 1 to give your document a one inch margin on all sides.
- Click Save.
- Change the Settings field to Page Attributes.
- Click the pull-down menu next to the Paper Size: field and select the paper size you just created. It will be near the end of the list.
c) Once you have selected the correct page size, click OK.
6. To make sure your image will fit on the plotter paper,
In Photoshop, click and hold the grey box titled Doc at the bottom left of your document. You should see a white rectangle with two crossing diagonal lines. The white box represents the plotter paper. The lines in the square represent your document. If the white rectangle is inside the square around the crossing diagonal lines, your document is larger than the paper and part of it will be cropped off. You will need to increase your paper size or make your document smaller.
7. To double check that your image will fit on the plotter paper, preview the appearance of your document. In Photoshop, go to the File menu and select Print with Preview. A window titled Print will open. Make sure that you are satisfied with the preview of your document in the upper left corner of the screen and choose Print. The following window will open.

8. You may see an error message, "Some PostScript specific print settings (Emulsion, Interpolation, Calibration Encoding) will be ignored since you are printing to a non-PostScript printer. Click OK.
