Troubleshooting Your Macintosh Network Connection

If your Macintosh computer is having trouble connecting to the network, try these simple troubleshooting techniques before contacting your Residential Computing Consultant.

  1. Shut down your computer, then unplug your network cable from your computer and from the network drop. Reconnect your network cable at both ends. Start up your computer and try connecting again.
  2. If your computer still won't connect, try connecting it to another drop, such as your roommate's drop or the drop at a laptop station in a public computing cluster. If your computer will not connect on your drop, but will connect on another drop, your drop is dead; fill out the Student Computing Help Form to request help from your RCC.
  3. If your computer won't connect on any drop, follow the steps in the Connecting Your Computer to the Campus Network section of the ResNet installation instructions to verify that your network settings are correct.
  4. If your computer still won't connect, fill out the Student Computing Help Form to request help from your RCC.
