Residence Hall Computer Room Policies
Usage
- Residence Hall Computer Room equipment is for the use of Wellesley College students, faculty, and staff only. All users must present Wellesley College identification upon request.
- Academic work has priority on Residence Hall Computer Room equipment. If all machines in a Residence Hall Computer Room are in use, users who are not doing academic work must relinquish their computers to students who need to do academic work.
- Unless otherwise posted, you may use a Residence Hall Computer Room machine for up to three consecutive hours.
- If you leave the computer at which you are working unattended for more than 15 minutes, you forfeit your claim to that computer.
- The Residence Hall's House Council may designate certain computers as reservable or express machines. Please abide by posted policies regarding the use of these machines.
Printing
- Laser-quality paper is provided by hall residents in accordance with the paper policy set by each hall's House Council. Please abide by your dorm's posted paper policy.
- To reduce wear and tear on your dorm's printer and to avoid print queue backlogs, refrain from printing multiple copies of any document. If you need more than one copy of a particular document, print only one copy and have duplicates made at the Copy Center.
- You may print only on unused laser-quality paper. Do not print on transparencies, used paper, or other papers not labeled for use in laser printers, as these materials will damage the printers.
- Toner is provided by Information Services; only the Residential Computing Consultant may handle toner cartridges.
Environment
- Food and drink are prohibited in all Residence Hall Computer Rooms. Smoking is not permitted.
- Please keep the Residence Hall Computer Room neat. Dispose of unwanted printouts and other refuse in appropriate containers.
- To provide a quiet work environment, avoid using your wireless telephone in the Residence Hall Computer Room. Please use headphones for all computer audio.
- Save all personal files to a floppy disk or Zip disk. If you do not have a floppy disk or Zip disk, you may temporarily store files on the 24-hour drop (please do not save confidential files to the 24-hour drop). Do not save files or install any software on the hard drive of a Residence Hall Computer Room machine; personal files and nonstandard software may be deleted without warning at any time.
- Do not remove any equipment from the Residence Hall Computer Room, or connect equipment not provided by Information Services to Residence Hall Computer Room equipment. The user is liable for any damage to dorm computer room equipment; House Council is responsible for collecting the funds to replace missing or damaged equipment.
- Information Services assumes no responsibility for personal items left in dorm computer rooms.
- Obey all posted signs and any additional policies set by the hall's House Council.
