Artist's Choice: Works from the Permanent Collection
September 24, 2002 – December 15, 2002
Eugene Atget, St.Cloud (St. Cloud, from the portfolio Paris and Environs), 1920.

This installation accompanied the exhibition Interlude: Recent Work by James Rayen. The show featured selections from the DMCC permanent collections by artists that have had a profound impact on Rayen's work.

Rayen wrote, "The eight artists I have chosen represent visions and influences that have been significant to my growth and development as an artist. With one exception they made images–whether figurative or abstract–that present a classical clarity of purpose and form. They present an art notable for its harmony, calm, simplicity and order. However, within their reserved worlds there are subtle tensions and undertones that imply the throbbing of life held in order by the artists’ skill with the formal arrangement of shape and pattern in space."
