INSTITUTIONAL REVIEW BOARD

Wellesley College maintains an Institutional Review Board (Committee on the Use of Humans as Experimental Subjects) which is responsible for assuring that research conducted at or under the auspices of the College conforms to federal, state, and local guidelines for the protection of human subjects. The Board routinely reviews grant proposals that require human subjects assurance by the federal government and other outside funding sources.

Research conducted at the College involving human subjects must also be approved by the Board. Instead of reviewing all such research, the Board will review guidelines established by individual departments and will consider on a case-by-case basis any proposals made by researchers not affiliated with the College. Anyone who is not affiliated with the College and who seeks to conduct research using any members of the College community must first contact the Office of Institutional Research in writing.
