JANUARY
OPTION COURSES
The January Option is designed to allow students extended time to work
on a final paper or project in fall courses. The deadline for such work
must be no later than the first day of class of the spring semester, but
the instructor may set an earlier deadline. To designate a course as January
Option the instructor must notify the Registrar's Office, announce it
during the first week of class, and include it on the syllabus. The January
Option must apply to all students in the class, not individuals.
Please be aware that some students, especially seniors, need transcripts
for January 15th or February 1st application deadlines, and therefore
need to be very careful about taking January Option courses. This is the
main reason we ask faculty to declare January Option courses at the beginning
of the semester. It allows students to change their schedules during add/drop,
if need be.
Grades for January Option courses are initially recorded as TBG ("To
be graded") by the Registrar's Office. It is not necessary for faculty
to submit grade sheets at the normal deadline. The deadline for final
grades is published in Important Dates and is approximately one week into
the spring semester. No "I" is recorded with the final grade.
