KEY CONTROL PROGRAM
2005-06

ACCOUNTABILITY

All keys issued by the Lock Shop are Wellesley College property and must be returned to the Lock Shop upon transfer to a different department or upon leaving the College. A computerized list of the keys assigned to you is available upon request.

REQUEST FOR KEYS

All new key requests must be submitted on the Wellesley College Requisition for Supplies and Services form and sent to Maintenance Services c/o Service Building.

Requests must include the name of the individual receiving the key, a description of what door or area access is required and should include a "similar to" key number if that is known.

This form should be signed by the department head or designee.

Each key upon issue is assigned a number unique to the individual. This assists in returning lost or misplaced keys.

For safety and security reasons spare keys, verbal requests for keys, and sending keys through the mail are not permitted.

LOST KEYS

Lost keys must be immediately reported to Campus Police. A standard form is to be completed which initiates replacement of the lost keys. There is a $10.00 charge for each replacement key. This can be paid by cash, check or via budget number when picking up the key. Charges to budget accounts require the appropriate department approval signature. If the lost keys are returned within a week the charge is refunded.

LOCK CHANGES

In a situation where keys are lost and the individual feels that the security of the space or safety of the occupants might be compromised, they can request that the door locks be changed. There is a $35.00 charge per lock change, payable as noted above.

LOCK SHOP HOURS

The Lock Shop does not maintain regular guaranteed "open" hours when a locksmith is in the shop. Keys must be picked up at the Service Building from the Maintenance Service Dispatcher during normal working hours.

- If you can conduct your everyday activities without the use of a key, certainly do so. If you must have a key, please be careful with it.

Your cooperation in this program will insure continued security and safety.
