History
The Bates Dining Hall was built in 1952. It initially consisted of Bates and Freeman Halls.  McAfee Hall was added in 1961. With the addition of the new dorm complex, it was the first time since 1886 that all students were able to reside on campus. It’s the largest dining hall on the east side of campus, as it can accommodate 300 seats at any one time.
