Resources for Individuals with Disabilities at Wellesley College

 

 

Wellesley College is an equal access institution that welcomes individuals with disabilities as students, staff, faculty, and visitors.  As part of that welcome, the College has identified key staff on campus as informational resources and who can assist individuals who may request access accommodations.  This publication is an introduction to resources on campus.

The following sections are organized by the many roles individuals may find themselves in when approaching Wellesley College.

 

Applicants for Admission

Applicants for admission are admitted to the College without regard to disability.  During the pre-admission process, applicants may need:

 

·        accommodations for a campus tour such as an Accessible Routes map, or a sign language interpreter

·        the application in an alternative media format such as on cassette tape, large print, Braille

Students

Students may find the need to request reasonable accommodations (or auxiliary aids and services) to obtain equal access to programs and services on campus.  Others may find the need for support and understanding of a staff person with expertise in disability issues.  Examples of commonly requested accommodations include:

 

·        note taking, testing accommodations, sign language interpreting, adaptive equipment

·        housing accommodations including wheelchair access and medically required single rooms

·        formatting in alternative media such as readings on cassette tape, large print, Braille

Faculty

Faculty may need reasonable accommodations to teach, research or perform other responsibilities.  These accommodations may include:

 

·        adaptive equipment such as overhead projectors to teach or modified lab benches for research

·        alternative media format such as readings on cassette tape, large print, Braille

·        course scheduling to accommodate endurance and break needs
