Welcome to Ann Velenchik's homepage

Ann Velenchik is an Associate Professor and the Chair of the Department of Economics at Wellesley College. She also serves as the Director of the International Relations program at Wellesley. Her speciality is development economics, labor economics, and the economics of Africa.

She earned her B.S. at Georgetown Univerisity magna cum laude in 1982 and her Ph.D. at Stanford Univeristy in 1989. She wrote her dissertation on the regional economic inequality and interregional migration in Côte d'Ivoire.

Ann has also received numerous awards for her teaching and her research. She was awarded the Pew Faculty Fellowship in International Affiars in 1991-2, th eWalter J. gores Award for Excellence in teaching at Stanford Univeristy in 1989. She was also a Fulbright scholar and received a grant for her dissertation reserach. She has taught at numerous universities before her position at Wellesley. They include Stanford Univeristy, Oxford Univeristy, Northwestern Univeristy and Boston University.
