Economics 306: History of Economic Organizations in the U.S.
This course analyzes the history of American enterprize, with a particular focus on the organization and governance of firms. The main topics to be examined will include: the evolution of business law over the nineteenth century; the contractual foundations of business organizations, and the choice between partnerships and the corporate form; the rise of big business and the great merger wave of the 1890s, and the legal changes that made these developments possible; and the evolution and regulation of American financial firms, and the role of financial crises in their development. Where possible, these issues will be examined through a comparative international perspective.

Economics 323: Finance
This course provides a rigorous treatment of the fundamentals of finance. We will consider: the interpretation of financial statements; the valuation of distant cash flows; the valuation of financial instruments such as stocks, bonds and options; and the financing and investment decisions of firms. Wherever possible, we will study modern academic research that relates to the topics of the course. But the relevance of the methodologies and research is not purely academic: unless you understand finance, you cannot understand a company's decision-making process thoroughly.
