ECON 312 The Economics of Globalization
Syllabus: html | pdf
The process of globalization has aroused great controversy. This
course examines the reasons for the integration across borders
of the markets in goods and the factors of production, and the
consequences of these trends. In the first part of the course we
discuss the history of globalization and the emergence of international
public goods. We then analyze the reasons for international trade,
the migration of labor and global financial flows, and their impact
on growth and poverty. We also examine the implications of globalization
for government policies and environmental policies.

ECON
313 Seminar. International Macroeconomics
Syllabus: html | pdf
This course deals with economic activity in the global economy. We begin with the international aspects of macroeconomics, including exchange rates, the balance of payments and the open-economy impact of macroeconomic policies. We then examine the choices countries face in their choice of exchange rate and capital account regimes. Finally, we study international financial crises, including the role of the IMF and the current status of the global economy.
Prerequisites: The prerequisites for the course are ECON 202 and 203. It will not be possible to take either of these courses concurrently with this course, as the theoretical models and empirical analyses we will discuss require familiarity with the material taught in ECON 202 and 203.
