ECONOMICS 102: Principles of Macroeconomics
This course is the second in the Principles sequence at Wellesley College, focusing on the aggregate dimensions of a market based economy. Topics include the measurement of national income, economic growth, unemployment, inflation, business cycles, the balance of payments, and exchange rates. The impact of monetary and fiscal policy on the economy is considered.

ECONOMICS 202: Intermediate Macroeconomic Analysis
Economics 202 is the intermediate-level course in macroeconomic theory. The focus of the course is on the analysis of economic growth and fluctuations. The course also covers consumption & investment theory, fiscal & monetary policy as well as the basics of international macroeconomics.

ECONOMICS 213: International Finance and Macroeconomic Policy
Economics 213 is the first elective course in open economy macroeconomics. Topics include basic features of foreign exchange markets, the structure of the balance of payments accounts, and the effectiveness of macroeconomic policy under fixed and flexible exchange rates and varying degrees of capital mobility. The course also examines the evolution of the international financial system, the role of the IMF, the creation of the European Monetary Union and the recent financial crises in
East Asia, Russia, and Brazil.

ECONOMICS 300: Mathematics for Economics
This is an upper-level course designed for students who are interested in learning more about the use of mathematical techniques in economic analysis. Students, who are expected to have a good knowledge of calculus and linear algebra, will be introduced to economic applications using difference and differential equations as well as the basics of dynamic optimization. These applications include maximization decisions of consumers and producers, comparative static analysis of models, phase diagram analysis of dynamic systems, and deterministic dynamic optimization.

ECONOMICS 331: Seminar: Monetary Theory and Policy
This course covers the formulation of monetary policy and its theoretical foundations. This includes discussion of important topics in monetary economics: rules vs. discretion, reputation, the monetary transmission mechanism and central bank independence, in addition the latest developments in monetary policymaking including inflation targeting, monetary policy rules and exchange rate anchors of monetary policy.
