ECON 213: International Finance and Macroeconomic Policy

Economics 213 is the first elective course in open economy macroeconomics. Topics include basic features of foreign exchange markets, the structure of the balance of payments accounts, and the effectiveness of macroeconomic policy under fixed and flexible exchange rates and varying degrees of capital mobility. The course also examines the evolution of the international financial system, the role of the IMF, the creation of the European Monetary Union and the recent financial crises in East Asia, Russia, and Brazil.
