Our goal today was the Po Lin Buddhist monastery on Lantau Island. We took a ferry from Hong Kong to Lantau Island.

On Lantau island we picked up a mini bus for the tour. Our first stop was Long Beach on the South China Sea.

No swimming since the shark nets were down!
Next stop the Po Lin monastery. The statue of the Giant Buddha is the most well known part of the monastery. However, the monastery is active and well used with many temples, gates and residential buildings, including a vegetarian dining room.
The final stop is a quiet fishing village on an island off Lantau called Tai O. The village is known as the "Hong Kong Venice," but that is stretching things considerably. It is a very nice, quiet fishing village and a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of Central.
I sleep on the ferry going back to Central. We meet Jimmy Ma at the Legislative Council Building
and head to Kowloon for dinner at a "Vietnamese" restaurant called the Golden Bull which prepared some of the best Cantonese food I had in Hong Kong. Ah, the ambiguities of China.
After dinner, Jimmy gives us a fantastic tour of Kowloon which is where he grew up.
I fall asleep in the car. What a day!
