Faculty in the Education Department have taught or had experience
working with students at different levels, from preschool to high
school, and
worked in different roles in many types of programs, both public and
private. We have taught kindergarten, fourth grade, middle school social studies, high school math and science, been a private school director, a residential counselor, an academic advisor, and directed a child care training program. We do research on many different topics, including the history of kindergartens and preschools, teacher education, educational psychology, and educational standards and reform. We
study education policies related to school tracking, immigrants and
education, and parent and community involvement in schools, and programs
to promote
social and emotional learning. In addition to receiving honors from
institutions such as Harvard University, the University of Minnesota,
the University
of Illinois, and Columbia University Teachers College, faculty members
have been awarded grants and fellowships from the:
