The Study of Education

Education is at the center of personal and social life.  Its study includes many inter-related topics and fields.  We offer a variety of courses, each one with its own distinctive intellectual challenge, but all seeking to connect different points of view, whether the course is focused on school reform, diversity, policy, history, research methods, child welfare, or learning to teach.   We invite you to try a single course (many different first courses are possible), and to consider one of the two minors we offer, the Education Studies minor or the Teacher Education minor.

Involvement with Schools and Youth

Education courses can connect to work in schools or youth programs in a variety of ways.  Teacher education programs provide paths into teaching in public and private schools, and to teacher certification in almost any state.  Or if you choose not to do a full student teaching program, teacher education courses can give you useful preparation if you are considering teaching (perhaps through an alternative program or charter school) or going to graduate school in education or a related field.
