Creative Writing
The English Department offers small workshop courses in poetry, fiction, screenwriting, playwriting, in conjunction with The Theater Studies Department, and creative non-fiction, in conjunction with the Writing Program. These courses are open to all Wellesley College students. Creative writing courses are graded credit/non-credit.

Welcome to Colin Channer, our second Newhouse Visiting Professor in Creative Writing, the author of Waiting in Vain: A Novel (1998), Satisfy My Soul: A Novel (2002), and The Girl With the Golden Shoes: A Novella (2007). He adapted his short story, "How to Beat a Child the Right and Proper Way," as a monologue for the Public Theater in New York (2007). He is also the founder and artistic director of The Calabash Literary Festival.
Farewell to Alicia Erian, our first Newhouse Visiting Professor in Creative Writing. Alicia is the author of The Brutal Language of Love: Stories (2001), Towelhead: A Novel (2006). Towelhead has been turned into a feature film in 2007, directed by Alan Ball.

Readings by the distinguished poet John Ashbery, debut novelist Nassim Assefi ('91), Jamaican novelist Colin Channer, and short-story writer Eileen Pollack. Eileen Pollack, the current director of the MFA program at the University of Michigan, among the top-ranked programs in the country, also spoke to students about graduate creative writing programs.
Premiere showing of the film Towelhead (2007) followed by a talk with its director, Alan Ball. The film was adapted from Alicia Erian's novel, Towelhead (2006).
Open class/lecture by screenwriter Scott Rosenberg, whose screen credits include Con Air, High Fidelity, and Gone in Sixty Seconds.
