honors

A student whose GPA in courses in her environmental studies major is 3.5 or higher may apply to write an honors thesis.  The application should be submitted in April of the student’s junior year.  A student planning to study abroad during spring of her junior year should discuss her interest in honors before she leaves and should stay in touch with her advisor when away, submitting the proposal at the regular time.

Each honors student will work with a three-person committee that includes a primary advisor and at least one faculty member outside the general disciplinary area of the thesis.  (If fulfilling the older version of the ES major, at least one member of the committee must be from outside the student’s ES concentration).

The honors application is essentially a research prospectus (of 2-3 pages in length), situating the project in previous research and explaining how it will be conducted.  The honors committee should be identified.  The proposal will be evaluated by the ES advisory faculty.
