Members of the Wellesley community have individual and collective responsibility for environmental stewardship.” Wellesley as an institution is becoming more environmentally conscious, with the help of these organizations and offices: The President’s Advisory Committee on Sustainability (also known as the Sustainability Advisory Committee): This committee drafted a sustainability statement that was adopted on behalf of the college The Office of Environmental Health and Safety: This office works with individuals and departments to ensure that Wellesley complies with all applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations and standards. The EHS office also provides information on environmental conditions on campus, such as the quality of the campus water supply. Facilities Management Department: These are the folks that really make the campus run – they are responsible for custodial services, maintenance, grounds, motor pool, and they run the college’s highly efficient co-generation power plant. WEED: Wellesley Energy and Environmental Defense (WEED) is a multi-constituency organization composed of students, faculty, staff, and union members interested in reducing the college’s environmental footprint. WEED oversees the eco-reps in the residence halls, conducts recycling at major environmental conferences, and plans events related to the environment. |
