| Fast-track German Language Acquisition The German Department offers an exciting way that permits you to accelerate through the four semester language requirement. Take the regular sequence of three semesters of German during the academic year: German 101-102, and German 201 on campus. Then take your last semester (German 202W) in the January-in-Vienna program. This fourth-semester course will be taught by a member of our Wellesley German Department faculty. January-in-Vienna (German 202W) The German Department will offer this educational opportunity in January 2007. This course, taught by two members of Wellesley's faculty, one from the German Department, and one from the Art Department, is a language immersion experience, which includes daily classroom instruction in Intermediate German as well as an exploration of the daily life, history, and culture of this European metropolis with special emphasis on its rich artistic heritage. Students earn 1.0 unit of credit for this course as they would when they take German 202 on campus. In addition to the regular language instruction in German 202W, that is equivalent to 202 on campus, the course differs from the on-campus version by taking advantage of the immediate cultural context available to us on site in Vienna. The course will include a number of required cultural excursions. The group will depart from Boston at the beginning of the winter session (in the month of January) and will return to Boston before spring semester classes begin on campus. There will be a program fee for this course. Financial aid will be available to eligible students. The Department will inform all students
in German
201 about the application procedure early in the fall semester. |
