The following is a list of events regularly sponsored by Harambee House
for the 2007-2008 academic year


 

January

  • Students regularly use Harambee House during Wintersession as a hang out spot to chat, watch TV, or cook in the kitchen downstairs.

February

Black History Month
Please join us this month as we celebrate our culture through our creativity in the arts.
  • Throughout the month, Harambee House will feature the artwork of Crystal Brown-Battle.
  • February 3rd-7th -
    • Roots movie viewing-The groundbreaking, history-making saga; Roots, the story of Kunta Kinte, a West African enslaved in the United States and his descendants. Each night we will watch a part of this series.
  • February 13th -
    • Quintessence Day-Please join us for a special guest lecturer that exudes the quintessential essence of Black womanhood.
  • February 28th -
    • Actor, director, and author; LeVar Burton will be our specal guest lecturer.

 

 

 


 

March

• March 11th- The MLK Committee will host Harry Belafonte as a guest lecturer

April

  • April 4th-5th -
    • Ethos 40th Anniversary Celebration
  • April 26th -
    • 26th Annual Ethos Fashion Show in Honor of Ethos Sister, Ms. Kathleen Daly

 

May

  • May 6th -
    • Harambee House 2007 Academic Excellence Awards @ 5:30 Harambee House
  • May 30th-
    • Senior Reception @ 7:00pm Harambee House
  • Congratulations Class of 2008

 

June

  • No planned events (if you would like to reserve the House for an event fill out a reservation form and return it to Ms. Carol's desk)
  • Harambee House is closed during July and for most of August.


September

  • First Year students of African Descent retreat
  • Black Student Faculty Lunch

 


 

October

All year long Harambee House hosts Guest speakers, lecturers, performances, movies that represent black culture, Black Faculty Students and staff lunches, various study breaks, programs, information sessions, monthly Black Task Force meetings and more!

  • Harambee House Family & Friends Weekend Brunch

November

 

  • Each month, various organizations reserve Harambee House for all kinds of events. WCD (Women for Caribbean Development), WASA (Wellesley African Student Association), Fusion, Mezcla, ETHOS, Graceful Harmony, and many more! All students are also always welcome to come by and just hang out in the house: watch TV, chat, or cook in the kitchen downstairs.
  • WASA Culural Show
  • Harambee House Spa Night

 

December

  • Kwanzaa Celebration and Dinner
  • Warm and Fuzzies (encouragement/stress management care packages for finals)
