Wellesley Honors Information
Undertaking original research in manuscript collections or rare
published materials can be one of the most exciting aspects of your
honors work. In some cases, students will discover that travel is
necessary in order to have access to such materials. In other cases,
you may wish to purchase a xerographic or microfilmed copy of a
particularly critical document. The History Department and Wellesley
College offer several sources of funding to help students defray such
expenses, and honors candidates are encouraged to investigate these
promptly.
The Henry Schwarz Honors Fellowship:
Through the generosity of the F.A.O. Schwarz family, the History
Department can now make a limited number of grants to support student
research in the honors program. Grants ranging from $500 to $2500
will be made primarily to support research during the summer before
the senior year. In some years, smaller grants may also be made to
support short research trips during the fall and winter. For
application forms, click here
or come to the History Department office.
Deadline: Applications should be submitted with thesis proposals
The Jerome A. Schiff Fellowship:
Made possible through a generous gift from the Jerome A. Schiff
Charitable Trust and administered by the Wellesley College Committee
on Curriculum and Instruction (CCI), Schiff Fellowships are merit
awards intended to support the scholarly work of students enrolled in
the senior honors program. Awards range from $2000 to $3000, and
students from all departments and programs are eligible to apply. For
more information, click here.
Deadline: October 17, 2005
Student Research Grants (Office of the Dean of the
College):
The Office of the Dean of the College administers a number of
grants to support student research and travel. The maximum amount of
these awards is $750. For more information, click here.
