APPLICATION PROCEDURE

A. Housing Applications

Housing applications are sent each February to current faculty tenants and all eligible faculty members. An application must be completed each year. Additional applications may be obtained from the Department of Housing and Transportation. Completed applications are to be returned by March 30.

B. Priority List

After completed applications have been returned, each applicant who wishes to enter Faculty housing or move from one faculty residence to another is assigned a position on a priority list in accordance with a point system developed by the Faculty Benefits Committee.

C. The Point System

1. One point is alloted for each year of continuous full-time service at Wellesley College.

2. Additional points are allotted on the basis of academic rank (the contractual rank for the following academic year at the time of assignment of priorities) as follows: - One point for Instructor - Two points for Assistant Professor - Three points for Associate Professor - Four points for Professor

3. Provision is made for administrators who are eligible for housing by virtue of their job requirements as follows: salary is adjusted (if necessary) to compare with the faculty salary (9/12 of 12 month administrator's salary) and points are assigned according to the faculty rank which corresponds with that salary. The years of service and tie breaking criteria are the same as for faculty members.

4. One point will be given for each dependent. Dependents are defined as children through age 23 and dependent parents, ordinarily living with a faculty member.

5. For those individuals who are allotted the same number of points on the basis of categories 1, 2 and 4 above, the following system is used to break ties (in the following order):

a. Priority is given to full-time faculty members.
b. Priority is given to senior academic rank.
c. Priority within rank is determined by the number of dependents.
d. Finally, assignment is made by the drawing of lots.

D. Assignment of a Residence

1. In accordance with the priority list, each eligible faculty member is notified of the residence available at that time. The applicant in turn notifies the College of her or his interest, if any, in a particular house or apartment offered. The residence chosen is assigned to that faculty member.
2. Once assigned a residence, the faculty member is asked to sign a lease in triplicate and to return two copies of it to the Faculty Housing Office. If it is not returned within 7 days, the offer is withdrawn and the residence is offered to the next eligible person.
3. The terms of occupancy set fourth in the Lease are important and binding, and should be read in their entirety.
