IS Appreciation Award Program

Mission Statement

The IS Appreciation Award Program is intended to acknowledge and demonstrate immediate and spontaneous appreciation for the contributions of individuals.

Form of Awards
The Appreciation Award will take two concurrent forms:

  1. a thank you note from colleague
  2. a chance to win 1 of 4 monthly awards.

Submission Process
A two-part, perforated thank you note will be made available to all staff. One part of the note will provide space for an IS staff member to write a personalized thank you, which will serve as an acknowledgement of an individual's contribution. The second part of the note will provide space to record the nominee's name and will serve as an entry blank for the monthly award drawing. After completing the thank you note, the staff member will sign it and forward via interoffice mail to IS Administration/ at Clapp Library 218. IS/Administration will separate the entry blank and send the personalized thank you to the nominee and place the entry blank in the pool for the monthly drawing. No anonymous acknowledgments will be accepted.

Award Schedule
The Appreciation Award program will go into effect on September 2, 2008. There is no set schedule for the distribution of Appreciation Awards, in the form of the personalized thank you notes, as they are intended to be spontaneous. Staff members are encouraged to complete a thank you note in a timely manner to recognize the efforts of others. Thank you notes received by IS/Administration by the last working day of the month will be entered into that month's drawing, to take place on the first working day of the following month (i.e, nominations received by September 30, 2008 will be entered into the Sept. pool, the drawing for which will take place on October 1, 2008.)

Award Certificates
Those whose names have been drawn will have the opportunity to choose one gift certificate card from a list of vendors. For more information please go to giftcertificates.com or if you would like to see the list of vendors.

Award Opportunities
All IS staff will have access to the Appreciation Award Program both in terms of demonstrating appreciation of others and receiving appreciation from others. A maximum of four awards will be presented as a result of each monthly drawing. An individual receiving multiple acknowledgements per month will be eligible for multiple entries in the monthly pool but will be eligible to win only one award in the given month. In addition, two awards will be chosen for the “Last Chance” drawing, at the IS end of year celebration. These awardees will be drawn from a pool comprised of those who were nominated but not selected from the monthly pools.

Selection Process
The monthly drawing for gift certificates will take place on the first working day of each month for the previous month's awards. The IS Rewards and Recognition (R&R) Committee will coordinate the drawing, which will be witnessed by a different department each month.

Program Facilitation
IS/Administration and the R&R Committee will share responsibility for administering the program.  IS/Administration will collect all nominations for Appreciation Awards, distribute thank you notes, maintain program supplies, oversee distribution of gift certificates and post recognition/reward information to the IS/Administration website.  The R&R Committee will be responsible for communication efforts, including promoting the program and selecting and announcing award recipients.

Program Communication
The IS R&R Committee will send a monthly e-mail to the IS First Class conference announcing the Appreciation Award recipients for that month. The IS/Administration web site will contain all information about the IS Staff Recognition Program.
