Re: Ombudsperson
Date: February 6, 2008
President Bottomly announced in December that we would inform the College community of our availability and services. We recognize that this is a new position, and we therefore offer the following description as tentative. As ombudspersons we will attempt to serve as impartial, independent, neutral advisors who can offer confidential assistance to faculty, staff, and students who wish to discuss problematic issues arising from their work or their interactions with faculty and/or staff members on campus. We hope to help you understand and navigate the College’s policies and practices. Discussions with us will be informal, private, and confidential, unless questions of legality or safety are raised. Both of us will have direct access to the president if there are issues that warrant her attention.
Availability:
Maud Chaplin will be available in Clapp library, room 238:
Tuesdays between 3 and 6 p.m.
Wednesdays between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.
And almost any time by appointment
Kathy Stewart will be available in room 136 Green Hall:
Tuesdays between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m.
Thursdays between 2 and 4 p.m.
Conversations with the Ombudspersons can take place either by phone at (Kathy) 781-283-2214 or (Maud) 781-283-2683, by email, or in person; an appointment is suggested but not required. Alternative meeting space is available by request.
We hope this service is helpful, and we are open to suggestions at any time.
