How
does the campus support printing for students and is there a charge
for this service?
Printing
in the Computer Labs is free of charge. Every residence hall also has
a laser printer that is provided and maintained by Information Services.
However, students must supply their own laser quality paper for these
residence
hall printers. Wellesley strongly recommends that each student bring
a printer to campus for her personal use.

Does
the campus provide wireless network coverage? If so, how much of
the campus has wireless connectivity?
The College provides wireless
access in its libraries and one common area in each residence hall,
as well as in the Center for Work and Service, Billings, the Collins Cafe, the
Davis Museum and Cultural Center, Jewett Arts Center, the Newhouse Center for the Humanities,
Continuing Education House, Slater International Center, Harambee House,
the Sculpture Court, the Pforzheimer Learning and Teaching Center, the
Science Center, Simpson, the Social Science building, the Wang Campus Center,
the Admission House (Weaver), and the College Club.
What security measures
are provided by the institution's IT department and what will be
the student's responsibility?
Wellesley College IS provides a system that will protect our network
and our users by requiring operating system patches and virus protection
to be up-to-date. At orientation, software is provided for all students
to use on their personal computers to prevent spyware on Windows computers
(McAfee Anti-Spyware) and viruses (McAfee for Windows and Virex for Macintosh). This
is provided free of charge. To deal with spam e-mail, the college uses
a system on its server to tag spam and student can set up their own rules
to be able to filter spam into folders so it can be easily deleted. Information
is available on our website to help students set up their computers securely
and to avoid security problems. If students have questions about installing
the virus or spyware detection programs, they may get individual assistance
from their Residential Computing Consultant or drop by the Computing First
Aid stations.

Does the campus include
the cost of technical accessories (for example, technology-enabled
note-taking pen that provides an interface to a CMS) in its technology
fee, or are students required to purchase these items separately
Wellesley College does not
charge a technology fee. We are not aware of any special technology
accessories required at this time.

Does the campus support
the purchase and use of e-textbooks? Do the baseline hardware and
software standards support this technology?
The College maintains a subscription to the E-brary library
of full-text electronic English-language books in
the humanities, social sciences and sciences. This content is
accessed through the Library web site;. The opening page of the
resource instructs the user to download simple reader software
which is a plug-in compatible with major web browsers on the
Windows platform. A training video and user guides are also available
to users. In addition. Other collections bring the total to over 230,000 digital e-books.
What is the telephone
service provided to residential students? Is it optional? Is there
a cost? [Wellesley
College question]
A single telephone number is provided for each room in the residence halls, with on-campus and local calling capability. Students who plan to use the service should bring a telephone to plug in for their room. A letter describing the current service plan in more detail is sent to all incoming First Year students in July, and information is also posted in the Admitted Student Portal.
