Life: Connecting With Others
Is contact information for students, faculty and staff readily accessible electronically? Wellesley College's directory of students, faculty, and staff is web accessible and is available on campus in both text format and as a picture directory. Faculty, staff and limited student information is available off campus as well, as are a departmental directory, key contacts listing, and other specialized directories. Does the campus make online communities available (for example forums, bulletin boards, and so forth)? Electronic conferences and chat rooms are available through FirstClass, Wellesley’s e-mail and conferencing system. There are more than three dozen 'open forums' on a wide range of topics, as well as over 250 discussion forums for student organizations. A portal for admitted students is available during the spring and summer months. Are there web sites for student organizations and clubs? A large number of Wellesley College Student Organizations have web pages, representing a diversity of interests. Such pages are linked to the For Students portion of the college web site. Student organization Webmasters receive training in web page creation and extensive support services through Information Services. Use the links below to sample a few of the many student organization pages: Campus-wide Diversity Initiative What technology-supported career-planning services are available for students? The Center for Work and Service (CWS) offers students connections to several customized career services, including CareerSearch, Goinglobal, Vault, CSO Research Focus, subscription job and internship online resources including ArtJob.org, Environmental Career Opportunities, H1Visa.com, WomenSportsJobs.com, Internships.com, Internships-USA.com and What can I do with this major? The Center plugs students in to the W Network (Wellesley Network), where Wellesley alumnae serve as resources for employment and graduate school advice. Wellesley is also a member of the Liberal Arts Career NetWORK (LACN), allowing students to link to the LACN internship and job database and the LACN Spotlight on Careers web site. In addition, the CWS web site provides links to other search engines and web resources providing career-related information.
