A native of Bologna, Cristina received her Bachelor's of Arts ("Laurea") in Foreign Languages and Literatures from the University of Bologna in 1990. In 1991 she went to Brown University on a Fulbright Scholarship and earned a Master's degree in English in 1993. She then pursued a doctoral program in the Italian department at Brown where she had served as a teaching assistant since 1991. She received her Ph.D. in 1998 with a dissertation on Sicilian writer Maria Messina by the title: Le "briciole" della letteratura: i racconti e i romanzi di Maria Messina (The "Crumbs" of Literature: Maria Messina's Short-Stories and Novels) published in Italy by Clueb in 2001. Cristina is a Lecturer in the department of Italian Studies at Wellesley College where she teaches all levels of language courses. Her interests include modern and contemporary literature, women's studies, and the pedagogy of Italian as a foreign language. She is the co-author of two textbooks: Italian Through Film (Yale University Press, 2004) and Italian Through Film, the Classics (Yale University Press, 2007).
