Dear Friend,

It is with enormous sadness that I write to let you know that Jean Baker Miller died Saturday, July 29, 2006, at her home. There is some comfort in the fact that she died peacefully. But the loss for all of us is profound. Jean was larger than life; she gave so much to so many of us. Her clear, courageous thinking, which has made a difference in the field of psychology, feminist scholarship and the field of social action, will continue to inspire us. Jean deeply appreciated the ways many of you have taken this work into the world, and I know your continued investment in this work filled her with hope.

We plan to hold a memorial service for Jean in the fall and hope many of you will be able to join us in remembering Jean and celebrating her life. We will stay in touch with you about the specifics of this service.

The family has asked that any contributions be made in Jean’s honor to the Jean Baker Miller Training Institute. Jean devoted her life to helping people better understand the importance of relationships and how destructive chronic disconnections can be at both the personal and social level. The Institute will carry this revolutionary work forward.
