Title:
Women and Empathy
Author(s):
Judith V. Jordan, Janet L. Surrey, Alexandra G. Kaplan
Abstract:
Three Stone Center scholars discuss empathy from the perspective of the mother-daughter relationship, a woman's relationship with herself, and the relationship between the client and the therapist. This paper examines women's capacity for relatedness, emotional closeness, and boundary flexibility which are crucial to the development of empathy.
