Title:
The Mother-Infant Tie: Fifty Years of Theory, Science, and Science Fiction
Author(s):
Beverly Birns
Abstract:
This paper presents and critiques some of the theory and research which suggest that children are "products" of maternal behavior. Research is discussed which suggests that factors other than mothering are significant in development. Current advice to mothers may be burdensome to women and not in the best interest of the children.
