Title:
Relational Development: Therapeutic Implications of Empathy and Shame
Author(s):
Judith Jordan
Abstract:
The relational development perspective sees therapy as a process through which individuals find ways to bring themselves more fully into relationship. Empathy serves our desire for connection, while the experience of shame leads to feelings of disconnection and disempowerment. An empathic, relational approach can significantly alter the experience of shame.
