Title:
Response to Sexual Abuse: Creativity and Courage
Author(s):
Annie G. Rogers
Abstract:
Girls who have been chronically sexually abused in childhood experience severe forms of dissociation in childhood which lead to the presence of several dissociative symptoms in adolescence. Creativity is described as a transformative process – bridging self, disturbing states of consciousness, and an unbearable reality. Through engagement with the arts, the author proposes that dissociative symptoms can be understood and reframed as vital sources of knowledge.
