Mindfulness, as a factor in psychological healing,
is currently receiving considerable attention. As recent neuroscience
studies have shown, mindfulness practices have a positive impact
on brain functioning and can be particularly effective when treating
depression and anxiety. This workshop will explore how mindfulness,
as it is evolving from Buddhist psychology, can contribute to Relational-Cultural
Theory (RCT) and the practice of psychotherapy.
We will also explore how RCT may open new relational
contexts for the practice of mindfulness, which we describe as “relational
mindfulness.” Finally, we will explore how relational
mindfulness leads to healing and positive change, deepening and
enlarging our practice of psychotherapy.
Educational
Objectives:
Participants will learn:
- Points of intersection of mindfulness, meditation, and Relational-Cultural
Theory.
- Strategies for enhancing relational awareness in psychotherapy.
- Applications of Buddhist psychology to Relational-Cultural Theory.
