Audio and Video Production
The Knapp Media & Technology Center is equipped with a television studio and a master control room, non-linear video editing suites and an audio recording room. These facilities allow faculty, staff and students to record, edit and produce both video and audio projects. Click for project examples.

TV Studio
The 16'x24' TV studio is a two-camera studio with the capability of broadcasting live on Channel 8 to the Wellesley College Video Network (WCVN). The studio and master control room are equipped with a satellite downlink feed from CNN; Grass Valley 110 switcher; two cameras (with capacity for a third); teleprompters; character generator; two VTR's; audio mixing board; digital audio workstation; a 10' grid with a full complement of television lighting instruments controlled by at TC Acclaim lighting board. Users have access to portable equipment including: DV camcorders; DVCAM camcorder; sound and lighting equipment. Three editing suites are also available. See editing suites information below.
Most programming on WCTV is student initiated and produced. The studio is typically used by the WCTV student organization which offers WCTV news and a current affairs program. The Knapp Center provides students with an opportunity to gain both "on-air" and "behind-the-scenes" skills. The studio is also used to videotape interview and record voice and instrument. The Knapp Center strives to establish and maintain professional standards appropriate to an educational access channel. Producers are expected to insure that the programs content remains within the generally-accepted bounds of good taste and fair play. Non-Linear Editing Suites
There are two non-linear editing suites in the Knapp Center.
Both non-linear editing suites are equipped with FinalCut Pro for capturing and editing video digitally. Hard disk storage is available in these suites for long-term projects and files can be exported to DV/DVCAM tape; DVD disc; S/VHS and DAT (digital audio tape).
These suites are used by faculty, staff and students on large projects including movies created as part of the Cinema and Media Studies Program. One can reserve the editing suites for two-hour slots by using the reservation sheets attached to the editing room doors. Because of the level of technical experience required to effectively use these facilities, contact Jarlath Waldron x2465 for access.
iMovie, a simpler and easier to learn application for digitizing video clips can be found on the computers in the Knapp Media & Technology Center for smaller projects.

Audio Recording Studios
There are two audio recording studios on campus.
Both studios allow users to create high-quality sound projects recorded directly from a microphone. Audio can be recorded simultaneously from the microphone directly to the computer, CF (Compact Flash) and digital audio tape (DAT).
The studios also have equipment enabling users to capture and edit audio from CD, DAT and audio cassette, and to export those files to digital audio files (aiff, mp3, QuickTime, etc.), DAT and audio cassette.
The Knapp Media & Technology Center also has portable DAT recorders and Compact Flash Card mp3 recorders that can be checked out for creating high-quality recordings outside of the studios.
