Knapp Fellows

Paul Reisberg - 2002
Paul Reisberg, Assistant Professor of Chemistry, concentrated on several applications during his fellowship including Flash, Media 100, and MatLab. His goals were to produce usable interactive content for his course website and learn what applications were suited to instructional use in Chemistry.

Dennis Downey - 2000
Dennis Downey, an independent artist, used his Knapp fellowship to work with Takis Metaxas, Associate Professor of Computer Science, Naomi Ribner, Assistant Professor of Art, and their students on a project called "Text Radio." This project used Flash and HTML to turn text, images and video submitted by the Wellesley College community into randomly generated animations. After Dennis' term as a Knapp fellow, the project was continued by Dennis, Takis, and Rachel Lomasky '01, as Rachel completed her honors thesis in Computer Science.

Carol Ann Paul - 1998
Carol Ann Paul, Senior Instructor in Biological Sciences, was the first Knapp Fellow. During her fellowship she concentrated on the creation of Flash animations to illustrate the dynamic nature of biological processes. In her site, Biology Concepts, Carol Ann explores different aspects of the Introductory Biology courses including the use of lab equipment and chemical reactions. During her tenure as a Knapp Fellow, Carol Ann also investigated image databases finally choosing Extensis Portfolio to create a database of biology images that would be accessable to all faculty in the department. She also offered workshops for faculty in the Biology department on scanning, Excel and Photoshop to help them get up to speed on the use of these applications for instructional purposes. In the summer of 2002 Carol Ann added video examples of lab preparations and dissections to her Biology Concepts web site. The videos were created with the help of two Knapp Instructional Technology Interns. The Biology Concepts site expanded futher to inlude The Neuron Connection with the help of Knapp Instructional Technology Interns in the summer of 2004.
