On-Campus Sound Support
There are two ways that one can have sound support for an event on campus: by requesting it from one of two departments on campus (which usually includes a charge), or by borrowing a portable sound system from the Knapp Center (for which there is no charge.)
Requesting sound support from Media Services
Media Services provides sound support in Collins Cinema; Jewett Auditorium; Green Hall Academic Council Room; Clapp Library Lecture Room; Pendleton Hall; Science Center 277 and Science Center 377
There is no charge for microphone use for in-class support.
A single microphone set-up comes with no charge.
For a set-up that requires more than one microphone, Media Services charges $25/hour in Collins Cinema and Jewett Auditorium (because of their more complex audio systems) and $10/hour in the other five locations.
Requesting sound support from the Specialty Shop
Physical Plant/Specialty Shop provides sound support in Alumnae Hall/Ballroom and Auditorium; Davis Museum; Houghton Chapel; Schneider; College Club; the dorms and the Sports Center Field House/Pool.
For set-up and take down of events taking place during the hours of 8am-4pm, Monday through Friday, there is no charge.
There is a charge if Specialty Shop is required to provide sound support between noon and 12:30pm, after 4pm on weekdays or on weekends.
Borrowing sound equipment from the Knapp Center
There are four portable sound systems that are available from the Knapp Center. Three of the systems can accomodate a single microphone, and the fourth is circulated with one microphone but has the capacity to operate two when a second microphone is requested.
Faculty and staff can reserve these portable sound systems by calling the Knapp Equipment Reservation Line at x2369 during staff hours.
During the academic semester
Monday-Thursday 8:30-8:00
Friday 8:30-4:30
Sunday 12:00-8:00 except on occassional holiday weekends
During Wintersession, Spring Break and Summer
Monday-Friday 8:30-4:30
Student Organizations should first contact Kelly O'Connor at x3715 to request the sound equipment available through the Student Activities office. If this equipment is not available for the dates needed, Kelly or another faculty/staff member can provide written permission for students to reserve the Knapp equipment. Follow the instructions above for making the reservation.
When requesting equipment, specify one or two microphones.
The portable sound systems have to be picked up at the Knapp Center during staff hours.
