Project Planning and Course Support

Whether you are planning a digital video project for Ruhlman, would like to learn how to create a DVD of a performance or need your students to use our scanners for a class project or poster session, the Knapp Media & Technology Center staff are pleased to offer support for projects, classes and organizations.

Project Planning

Projects created at the Knapp center range widely in size, time and technology.

Among the many types of projects completed each year, members of the Wellesley community use the Knapp Center to

  • create web pages
  • scan and edit photographs
  • print posters for conferences and poster sessions and digital photographs for exhibition
  • convert digital audio tapes to CDs
  • grab video clips from VHS cassettes to post in conferences or on the web or show during presentations
  • record and edit interviews and readings
  • create QuickTime VR movies
  • edit video footage and build full length DVDs

In many cases, our online technical documentation and student consultants provide all you need to make your project a success.

In some cases, however, unfamiliar technology or a project that is large in size requires greater planning and support. Advanced planning with a Knapp staff member can help determine appropriate technologies and project production time, identify possible pitfalls and provide you with instruction, tips and support for your project.

If you are are getting ready to start a project in Knapp or have questions about project possibilities, contact Rebecca Darling by email or at x2882 to be paired up with a staff person who can answer your questions, start you off in the right direction, and provide support while you are working.

Training

The Knapp Staff offer technical workshops for classes and groups of students by request. Our past classes have included

  • Storyboarding and Project Planning
  • Digitizing video clips to accompany final papers
  • Scanning images and using Photoshop to create print advertisements
  • Creating basic web pages for a collaborative class project using Dreamweaver
  • Printing to our large-scale plotter for poster sessions and art exhibitions
  • Creating Powerpoint presentations for Ruhlman and Tanner
  • Using digital video cameras and audio recording devices

We are happy to work with you to offer classes for your students in these and other topics and to tailor our classes to the projects your students will be completing.

To arrange a technical workshop for your students, please contact Rebecca Darling by email or at x2882.

Support

Students, Faculty and Staff will find technical and project support at the Knapp Service Desk and/or by appointment.

In addition to our professional staff and student desk consultants we also provide the Multimedia Project Specialists (MPS): specially trained student consultants who provide high-end technical support for academic projects.

The MPS training is focussed on academic project support and adjusts based on the projects students are assigned. In most cases the the MPS complete smaller versions of these assignments to prepare for supporting a course.

The MPS will support any student working in Knapp, but are also assigned to provide targetted support for specific academic classes. Faculty can notify our staff about upcoming projects by contacting Rebecca Darling by email or at x2882. After learning more about your assignment, she will prepare the MPS to support it.
