Alianza
Alianza's purpose is to increase cultural and social awareness of Latin
Americans and Iberians in the Wellesley College community, and to
advance the common concerns of these people. It provides a familiar
atmosphere in which students of these backgrounds can share their
similar/different experiences and establish friendships through various
activities such as salsa/merengue classes, lectures, discussions
etc.
Amnesty
International
Amnesty International is an international and impartial organization
dedicated to preserving and fighting for human rights in countries around
the world. Amnesty's official mandate includes demanding both the release
of prisoners of conscience, and fair and prompt trials for those imprisoned.
The chapter at Wellesley College writes letters on behalf of political
prisoners in addition to organizing activities and fund raisers that
promote the awareness of human rights issues on campus.
Mezcla

interests of the Latina community at Wellesley College. We seek to
improve the awareness of the Wellesley College community of our culture
and improve our representation within the student body, faculty,
and administration.

activies to raise awareness and promote discussion.
Political
Organizations United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM)
The mission of the organization is to raise consciousness of people around
us about the work and accomplishments of UNIFEM through education and
advocacy. UNIFEM was established in 1976 and focuses on three areas of
immediate concern: strenghtening women's economic capacity, engendering
governance and leadership, and promoting women's human rights.
Slater
International
Slater International Association is a student run organization formed
with the aim of encouraging a greater understanding among cultures through
personal association and cooperative endeavors. We also strive to address
the needs and concerns of Wellesley College's international students
regardless of nationality or cultural identity. Each year, we bring a
variety of lectures and panel discussions to campus concerning a wide
range of international affairs, as well as delicious dinners celebrating
cultural events. However, Slater is not exclusively for international
students and we welcome participation of everyone on campus.
Women
for Caribbean Development
Our purpose is to establish a meeting place for sisters of Caribbean
descent on Wellesley College's campus. It is also here to help those
who need to adjust to the cultural differences. Women for Caribbean Development
will be a vehicle of expression of the culture and history of the Caribbean.
